Project: DTM / FRP supply of building soffits for a modern structure

Scope of work

  • CNC machined surfaces of lower soffits

Over 2000 ft2 of non-repeating organic surfaces shape the lower soffits for this modern structure currently under construction. Veiled in secrecy and under tight confidentiality, this program was perfect for DTM machining, shortening the build duration while limiting cost. CNC machining on the scale available at Symmetrix brought the architect’s vision to life, and we hope to share more details when the project goes public.

Project: Master pattern for the Staten Island Children’s Museum wind scoop skylight

Scope of work

  • CNC machined pattern

Machined in two surfaces to accommodate draft and release, this complex shape came to life at Symmetrix Composite Tooling. Goetz Custom Composites completed the FRP step before installation on the roof of the Staten Island Children’s Museum.

The wind-scoop skylight, comprised of a rotating cowl and a colorful, translucent rotating drum, uses stack-effect air circulation to passively ventilate the building below. The drum extends down into the museum, providing an animated display that indicates wind direction.
